Role Overview
Pharmacist jobs in Salem for a hospital involve handling inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, dispensing medicines safely and supporting doctors and nurses in managing medication therapy for admitted and OPD patients.
You will review treatment charts, check doses and routes, monitor potential drug interactions, prepare unit‑dose and ward stock and provide medication counselling to patients and their attendants at discharge.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and verify inpatient, outpatient and emergency prescriptions as per hospital protocols before dispensing.
- Dispense medicines accurately with proper labels, dosage instructions and warnings as per doctor’s orders.
- Review patient medication charts for doses, frequency, duplications and possible drug interactions and escalate issues to doctors.
- Prepare and issue ward stock, unit‑dose medicines and emergency drugs to different departments and ICUs.
- Maintain adequate stock of high‑risk, lifesaving and routine drugs, monitor expiries and ensure proper storage conditions.
- Document all issues of medicines in HIS / pharmacy software and maintain records for audits and regulatory inspections.
- Counsel patients and caregivers on how to take medicines after discharge, possible side effects and adherence importance.
- Follow hospital infection control, safety and NABH / regulatory guidelines related to pharmacy services.
Candidate Profile
- D.Pharm / B.Pharm with Tamil Nadu Pharmacy Council registration or eligibility for registration.
- 0–3 years experience as Hospital Pharmacist or Clinical Pharmacist in multispeciality or nursing home setup; freshers can also apply.
- Good knowledge of generic and brand names, IV fluids, antibiotics, high‑alert medicines and dosage calculations.
- Experience with hospital information systems / pharmacy software and basic understanding of hospital workflows.
- Willingness to work in rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, based on hospital pharmacy timings.
