Role Overview
We are hiring vigilant and proactive Safety Officers for leading garment manufacturing unit in Coimbatore. You will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment by implementing occupational health and safety policies, conducting inspections, preventing accidents, and ensuring compliance with local labor laws, buyer requirements, and international safety standards.
Coimbatore is a major hub for apparel exports and textile manufacturing โ this role offers exposure to large-scale production floors, interaction with buyer compliance teams, and opportunities to work with global brands. Key Responsibilities
- Fire Safety Management: Maintain and inspect fire safety equipment including extinguishers, hydrants, alarms, and emergency lights. Ensure clear emergency exits and proper signage. Conduct regular fire drills and evacuation exercises. Coordinate with local fire authorities as required.
- Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with Factories Act, 1948, Tamil Nadu safety laws, and buyer codes of conduct (BSCI, SEDEX, WRAP, SA-8000, Accord/Alliance). Prepare for internal and external safety audits and follow up on corrective action plans.
- Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment: Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards related to machinery, electrical systems, chemicals, and ergonomics. Perform risk assessments and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ensure proper availability and usage of PPE across all production areas. Monitor compliance and address violations.
- Training & Awareness: Conduct safety induction training for new employees, regular safety sessions for workers and supervisors, and monthly fire safety awareness programs. Organize toolbox talks and safety campaigns.
- Accident Investigation: Investigate workplace accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions. Prepare detailed incident reports with root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures. Maintain accident registers.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain updated records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and statutory reports. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports for management.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response procedures. Ensure availability of first-aid facilities and trained first-aiders. Coordinate mock drills and emergency evacuation exercises.
- Health & Hygiene: Monitor workplace cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, and sanitation. Ensure compliance with health and hygiene standards in production and welfare facilities.
- Team Management: Lead and train the in-house firefighting and rescue team. Supervise security personnel regarding safety-related duties.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, Engineering, or related field. Certification in Safety Management (NEBOSH, IOSH, ADIS, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
- Experience: 2โ8 years in safety management within the garment, textile, or manufacturing industry. Export house experience is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fire safety systems, electrical safety, machine guarding, and chemical handling.
- Familiarity with buyer compliance audits (BSCI, SEDEX, WRAP, Accord/Alliance) and local labor laws (Factories Act, 1948).
- Excellent communication and training skills โ ability to conduct safety sessions for workers and supervisors.
- Proficiency in MS Office and maintaining safety documentation.
- Strong observation, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to handle emergencies calmly and work under pressure.
- Willingness to work in factory environments and conduct floor walks daily.
