Role Overview

Operation Theatre Technician jobs in Mumbai for a hospital involve preparing operation theatres before surgery, arranging instruments and equipment and assisting surgeons, anaesthetists and OT nurses during operative procedures.

You will help in transferring and positioning patients, maintaining sterile fields, operating basic OT equipment and ensuring that the operation theatre is cleaned, restocked and ready for the next case.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operation theatres before each surgery by checking lights, suction, cautery, OT table and other equipment.
  • Arrange and count surgical instruments, linen, sutures and consumables as per surgery type and surgeon preference.
  • Assist in transporting patients to and from OT and in positioning them safely on the OT table.
  • Maintain strict aseptic and infection control practices, including gowning, gloving and maintaining sterile fields.
  • Provide intra-operative support by passing instruments, handling equipment and assisting surgeons and anaesthetists.
  • Clean, disinfect and restock the operation theatre after each case and ensure proper biomedical waste segregation.
  • Check and maintain OT inventory, monitor expiry dates and coordinate with stores for replenishment of supplies.
  • Support emergency and on-call surgeries by preparing OT quickly and ensuring all critical equipment is functional.

Candidate Profile

  • Diploma / Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology or OT Assistant course from recognised institute.
  • 0–3 years experience as OT Technician / Operation Theatre Assistant in multispeciality or speciality hospital; freshers can also apply.
  • Basic knowledge of surgical procedures, OT instruments, sterilisation and infection control protocols.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, coordinate with surgeons, anaesthetists and nursing staff and follow instructions accurately.
  • Willingness to work in rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and emergency on-call duties as per hospital policy.
