Role Overview

You will prepare OT and instruments before surgery, support the surgical team during procedures, monitor patient condition and participate in post‑operative handover and documentation as per hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles and instruments and ensure safe disposal of sharps and biomedical waste.
  • Assist in post‑operative transfer of patient to recovery or ICU and provide nursing handover as per hospital policy.
  • Follow infection control, NABH and hospital safety guidelines and participate in OT audits and quality improvement activities.
  • Prepare the operating room by checking equipment, arranging instruments, consumables and ensuring sterility before each case.
  • Work as scrub nurse by scrubbing, gowning and gloving, arranging instruments and passing them to the surgeon during surgery.
  • Work as circulating nurse by assisting the scrub team, managing supplies, recording counts and coordinating with other departments.
  • Verify patient identity, consent, site and procedure, assist in positioning and preparing the patient on the OT table.
  • Monitor patient’s vital signs, fluid balance and response during surgery in coordination with anaesthetist and surgical team.

Candidate Profile

  • GNM / B.Sc Nursing with valid Karnataka Nursing Council registration.
  • 0–3 years experience as OT Staff Nurse / Scrub Nurse / Operation Theatre Nurse in multispeciality or speciality hospital; freshers with OT interest can also apply.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, OT instruments, aseptic techniques and peri‑operative nursing care.
  • Ability to work in team with surgeons, anaesthetists and OT technicians and remain calm in emergency and high‑pressure situations.
  • Willingness to work in rotating shifts, nights, weekends and on‑call duty as per operation theatre schedule.
