Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train junior laboratory staff and technicians.
  • Maintain laboratory records and ensure compliance with NABL / CAP accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate with infection control team for outbreak investigations and surveillance.
  • Participate in hospital committees related to infection control and antibiotic stewardship.
  • Perform microbiological tests on clinical specimens including culture, identification, and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory results and prepare reports for clinicians.
  • Monitor and implement infection control protocols within the hospital.
  • Ensure quality control of media, reagents, and equipment used in the microbiology lab.

Candidate Profile

  • M.Sc in Medical Microbiology / Clinical Microbiology from a recognized university.
  • 3–8 years of experience in a hospital microbiology laboratory.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, culture methods, and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
  • Experience with automated microbiology systems (VITEK, BD Phoenix, etc.) preferred.
  • Understanding of infection control practices and hospital epidemiology.
  • Familiarity with NABL / CAP accreditation standards.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Laboratory Equipment & Tests

  • Culture & Sensitivity: Bacterial culture, antifungal susceptibility, MIC determination.
  • Serology: ELISA, rapid tests for infectious diseases.
  • Molecular Diagnostics: PCR, RT-PCR for viral and bacterial pathogens.
  • Automated Systems: VITEK, BD Phoenix, BacT/ALERT.
  • Staining Techniques: Gram stain, AFB stain, fungal stains.
  • Infection Control: Environmental monitoring, sterilization validation.
