Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with infection control team for outbreak investigations and surveillance.
- Participate in hospital committees related to infection control and antibiotic stewardship.
- Perform microbiological tests on clinical specimens including culture, identification, and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
- Analyze and interpret laboratory results and prepare reports for clinicians.
- Monitor and implement infection control protocols within the hospital.
- Ensure quality control of media, reagents, and equipment used in the microbiology lab.
- Supervise and train junior laboratory staff and technicians.
- Maintain laboratory records and ensure compliance with NABL / CAP accreditation standards.
Candidate Profile
- M.Sc in Medical Microbiology / Clinical Microbiology from a recognized university.
- 3–8 years of experience in a hospital microbiology laboratory.
- Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, culture methods, and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
- Experience with automated microbiology systems (VITEK, BD Phoenix, etc.) preferred.
- Understanding of infection control practices and hospital epidemiology.
- Familiarity with NABL / CAP accreditation standards.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Laboratory Equipment & Tests
- Culture & Sensitivity: Bacterial culture, antifungal susceptibility, MIC determination.
- Serology: ELISA, rapid tests for infectious diseases.
- Molecular Diagnostics: PCR, RT-PCR for viral and bacterial pathogens.
- Automated Systems: VITEK, BD Phoenix, BacT/ALERT.
- Staining Techniques: Gram stain, AFB stain, fungal stains.
- Infection Control: Environmental monitoring, sterilization validation.
